Collective Cycling Clubs Group Descriptions
These groups are designed to help decide which group is best suited to your ride pace. G5 and G4 are non-drop groups.
All riders in G4 and upwards are required to be able to ride within a Collective Cycling Club group without causing concern or distress to other riders & road users.
G2 and G1 are invitation only groups. These invitations are based solely upon your ability to ride safely within a fast pace environment and not on your speed capabilities.

Assessment Group 5
Group 5 (G5) Assessment Group
Experience Level: New Club Members, Beginners & Entry Level Riders
Requirements: This is our entry level group for riders who are competent, but new to group riding. This group will cover simple drills to improve each rider’s skills, safety and confidence.
Ride leaders will assess new riders to the club who may have years of solo cycling experience but have never ridden with The Collective Cycling Club.
G5 is not speed based. So all riders can ride at their preferred pace to go through the assessment.
Speed: Rider safety appropriate.

Group 4
Group 4 (G4)
Experience Level: All existing club members and approved new members Maximum Group Size: 12 (including Ride Leaders)
Requirements: This group will cover drills and etiquette within a group environment therefore confidence on your bike is essential. Some experience of group riding is preferred, i.e. previous club rides or sportives. This group will cover hand signals and calls and is a NO DROP group'
Seasoned G4 riders may perform more advanced drill at their Ride Leaders discretion. Minimum average Speed: 15mph/24kph (When done as a non-stop lap of Richmond park)

Group 3
Group 3 (G3)
Experience Level: Competent.
Having the necessary ability, knowledge, and skill to ride safely
within a group.
Maximum Group Size: 10 (including Ride Leaders)
Requirements: This group will cover drills at a higher pace, therefore you must have experience
riding within a closer group environment before riding with G3. If you are transitioning from G4
please notify your Ride Leader before moving up. If you are new to the club you MUST complete a
basic skills assessment before being permitted ride in G3.
Please seek approval from the groups Ride Leader before joining this group for the first time.
Minimum average Speed: 17mph/27kph

Group 2
Group 2 (G2)
Experience Level: Experienced Riders - Invite Only Group
Maximum Group Size: 10 (including Ride Leader)
Requirements: This group will cover complex drills at fast pace, therefore you must have significant
experience riding in a group. You must have ridden for a period within our G3 group and be
comfortable riding within half a wheel of the bike in front. This is an invite only group and you will be
invited to step up from G3 by a Ride Leader when you consistently display safe riding practices
within a group environment. If you request to ride with G2 you will have to undergo an advanced
safety assessment before approval is granted.
Minimum average Speed: 19mph/31kph
Weekly Club Rides
It is incumbent upon all members to attend regular drills sessions to ensure that we maintain our
high skills and safety standards. If you do not regularly attend our group training/drills sessions you
may be asked, by a Ride Leader, to join another group if they feel that it is necessary to ensure your
safety and the safety of the entire group.

Other group rides within our club include:
Women Only Group Rides: This group is for the Women’s Epic Rides, only, and is a NO DROP group
G4 Social: This group is for Epic rides only, when a slower paced ride is preferred by all participants. The pace will be determined by the slowest rider on the day of the ride. This is a NO DROP group.
Race Team and Training: TBA.

Pre-Road Ride Checklist
A successful road cycling ride starts long before you hit the road. Proper preparation ensures safety, comfort, and peak performance. Here’s a comprehensive guide on how to get ready for your ride, including key reasons why each step is essential.
Tires & Pressure: Inflate to the recommended PSI for smooth rolling and puncture prevention.
Brakes: Test both front and rear brakes for responsiveness.
Chain & Gears: Lubricate the chain and check gear shifting for smooth transitions.
Bolts & Quick Releases: Tighten any loose bolts to avoid mid-ride mishaps.
Helmet: Always wear a well-fitted, safety-certified helmet.
Cycling Kit: Opt for moisture-wicking jerseys, padded shorts, and breathable gloves.
Glasses: Protect your eyes from wind, dust, and debris.
Shoes & Pedals: Ensure cleats are secured and properly aligned for efficiency.
Spare Tube & Tire Levers: In case of a puncture.
Mini Pump or CO₂ Inflator: To reinflate your tire quickly.
Multitool: Handy for quick adjustments.
ID & Emergency Contact: Safety first!
Cash or Card: Useful for unexpected stops or emergencies.
Before the Ride: Eat a balanced meal with carbs and protein 1-2 hours before riding.
During the Ride: Carry water or an electrolyte drink and energy snacks for longer rides.
Post-Ride Recovery: Rehydrate and eat a protein-rich meal to aid muscle recovery.
Stretch & Mobilize: Loosen up key muscles before riding.
Set a Goal: Whether it’s endurance, speed, or fun, having an objective keeps you motivated.
Stay Aware: Practice good road etiquette, stay alert, and enjoy the ride!

Hill Training
Tuesday South London Hills
Departs 18:30
A challenging weekly training session that builds skill, strength and confidence. Members ride-out on varied routes (locally in South London or out to the Surrey or Essex countryside) that take in popular climbs. Our Leaders coach competent new and experienced riders for a challenging and productive session

Hill Training
Wednesday North London Hills
Departs 18:30
A fun weekly training session that builds skill, strength and confidence. Our leaders coach competent new and experienced riders within a compact hill circuit to get the legs working for a highly productive session. We finish with a hot drink and catch-up. Distance and elevation depend on fitness level.

Social Laps
Summer Thursday Social laps
Departs 18:00
Post-work social / light training laps, with a maximum group size of 8. These laps add miles while meeting with friends and enjoying the warmer weather. No-drop fun vibes.

Saturday Rides
Regent’s or Richmond Park Laps
Departs 08:00
Our Saturday sessions are open to the general public, varied to keep things interesting. Alternating between two parks, rides can focus on general skills and drills, group riding skills, training or social laps. Mixed abilities are catered for within group allocations.

Various Start Points and Times
A varied program of mainly Sunday (some Saturdays) epic rides and routes arranged by our Ride Leaders. These can feature bucket list climbs, flat routes or rolling hills with options on route length / profile – always with a great café stop.
